When is Qurbani 2026? Important Dates and Deadlines

Home When is Qurbani 2026? Important Dates and Deadlines

During the celebration of Eid al-Adha, also known as the greater Eid, is an essential act of worship that remembers the great sacrifice of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his unwavering loyalty and obedience to Allah (SWT). This is known as Qurbani and is an animal sacrifice to show utter devotion to Allah (SWT) that every able Muslim should do during the days of Eid. The purpose of this sacrifice is to reflect the same commitment to Islam as the Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his only son for Allah (SWT). He was commanded that he must sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS), and Ibrahim (AS) didn’t waver from this command, showing obedience to His will. As Ibrahim (AS) was ready to make the sacrifice, Allah (SWT) replaced Ismail (AS) with a ram to reward Ibrahim’s (AS) utter devotion, which began the tradition of Qurbani to allow Muslims to connect closer to their faith and show mercy and devotion.

Now, eligible Muslims all around the world perform Qurbani during Eid al-Adha to complete this act of worship and earn reward. Qurbani is so much more than an act of worship. It’s also a way to unite the ummah as the meat from the sacrifice goes to those in need, sharing blessings with them to feel the joys of Eid. Due to its significance, there are many requirements when it comes to the sacrifice. One of the major requirements is the deadline for Qurbani to make it valid. Our guide helps you understand when Qurbani Eid in 2026 and the deadline for the sacrifice is to correctly observe this act.

When is Qurbani Eid 2026?

Eid al-Adha 2026, also known as the Islamic festival of sacrifice, is fast approaching and it’s important to know the exact date to know when Qurbani should be done. The 2026 Eid al-Adha date is expected to be May 27th, which is the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah. However, this date can vary due to the sighting of the crescent moon, so it’s best to check closer to the time for a more accurate date. The celebration continues for three days after the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, spanning across the 11th, 12th and 13th days of Dhul Hijjah. These days are called the days of tashreeq and Qurbani is done on these days until the sun sets on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. During the Islamic festival of sacrifice, Muslims gather together with family, friends and the community to eat traditional meals, reflect, support each other and pray.

Nubaishah Al-Hudhali (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him said:

The days of Tashriq (the three days following ‘Idul Ad-ha, i.e., 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul Hijjah) are days of eating, drinking, and remembering (dhikr) of Allah, the Most Great and Glorious.”

  2. Consult local Islamic authorities for precise moon sighting
  3. Select a healthy, permissible animal meeting Shariah requirements
  4. Plan your donation or sacrifice in advance

  • Goats
  • Sheep

  • Camels

  • Buffalo

What’s the Deadline for Qurbani?

So, what’s the deadline for Qurbani? The sacrifice can only begin after the Eid prayer on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah (the day of Eid al-Adha) and can continue to be performed until sunset on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. This means that the deadline for Qurbani is the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

For most Muslims, a Qurbani donation needs to be made to a reputable charity, like Al-Qulub Trust. This donation needs to be made as early as possible to ensure that your sacrifice is made within this timeline. We recommend the Qurbani deadline for donations to be before Eid al-Adha, which is why we take donations a month before the celebration. However, we can take donations during Eid before the 13th day and get your sacrifice in before sunset on the last day. If you donate too late, your Qurbani is at risk of being done outside of this deadline, which won’t count as Qurbani. Instead, it will only count as general charity (Sadaqah), and your act of worship won’t be fulfilled.

Why Early Qurbani Donations Matter

Most Muslims decide to give their Qurbani on the day of Eid as it feels the most appropriate time. However, there’s so much that goes into getting your sacrifice prepared and distributed to those in need that this can be risky and may be too late. With the complex logistics and the massive global volume of donations, waiting until the day of Eid can mean your sacrifice doesn’t get performed before sunset of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. This means that getting your donations in early matters because it ensures that your sacrifice is done before the Qurbani deadline to make it valid.

Making your donation early with Al-Qulub Trust ensures that your sacrifice is carried out within the correct timeframe. As well as this, it allows you to select the best animals that are healthy and meet the regulations to ensure that the meat that’s distributed to those in need is fresh and makes it to them during Eid al-Adha. It provides a timely sacrifice that gives vulnerable families around the world healthy food to end their hunger and help them join in the Eid celebrations, giving them joy, hope and better health to survive.
