Fitrana - Zakat-ul Fitr
As the blessed month of Ramadan draws to a close, our thoughts turn even more deeply to those less fortunate than ourselves. Across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and even closer to home in Europe, countless members of our Ummah continue to face hardship, poverty, and uncertainty.
Ramadan reminds us that our faith is built upon compassion, generosity, and responsibility towards one another. One of the most beautiful expressions of this is Fitrana (Zakat-ul-Fitr) — a special charity given before the Eid prayer so that those in need can also celebrate the day of Eid with dignity and joy.
Fitrana is obligatory for every Muslim who has the means to give, and it must be given on behalf of each member of the household, including children. This year, the amount has been set at £6 per person.
